So today's creative exercise was creating a song parody. I chose Taylor Swift's "You Belong with Me" and wrote about Cedar Point. "Let's go to CP"
You're on the road with some good friends‒ Some just met, They're going on about something that they read, No one wants to get there as much as I do. We're making plans‒ it's a typical Friday night. I'm listening to the plans, they always go just right And we'll always listen to Kanye like we do. Don't wear short skirts Just wear t-shirts Bring a jacket And put on some sneakers. Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find That thrill you're looking for has been here the whole time. If you could see all of the rides when you first get there. Queues are long and hot But oh, can't you see? ‒ I love going to CP! Love going to CP. Walking the streets, we head to the classic part. The Iron Dragon is where we ought to start. Laughing on a park bench thinking to myself, "Hey, isn't this easy?" But then there's the Mantis, Which always leaves a mark, And there's Millennium Force That's scary when it's dark, You say you're fine ‒ I know you better than that. Hey, they have got lots of bugs and gnats! Standing by and waiting until your shift's done, All this time, we were looking for you, baby ‒ I love going to CP! Love going to CP. [Instrumental] Oh, I remember the Beach Band playing songs, In the middle of the point. They're the ones who makes you laugh And they never disappoint. They know your favorite songs, And they sing about your dreams. They dance with Snoopy and Linus and Luuuuuuucy. If you could see all of the rides when you first get there. Queues are long and hot But oh, can't you see? ‒ I love going to CP! Standing by and waiting until your shift's done, All this time, we were looking for you, baby ‒ I love going to CP! Love going to CP. I love going to CP! Have you ever thought just maybe You should see CP? I love going to CP! Hello again. This exercise is called Abstract Emotions: Choose a piece of abstract art, that is , a painting, photograph, or sculpture that represents its subject in a non-realistic way. Look at the piece for several minutes. Now write down how it makes you feel, and what you think the artist might have been feeling while creating it. This was a sculpture from the Tate Modern in London. I didn't take a picture of the artist's name or what the title was, but that should make this more fun right? So this is basically a sculpture of a string tied around rocks. Hanging rocks. I have two interpretations. This piece makes me feel like anything is malleable. In light of everything going on right now in my life, here is a more optimistic interpretation first. When I see this piece, I think about how people can seem so hard on the outside. People or things, I suppose. I think about how unapproachable people can seem and how difficult it is to reach certain ideas or goals. I'm not sure if the rocks started off as smooth rocks, but the artist must have spent a lot of time planning to mold these rocks. It gives me hope that even something so hard and cold on the outside can be shaped by little changes. On the other hand, the more pessimistic interpretation is that the rocks look unnatural and almost suffocating. Why is someone changing something's natural state? Why should someone try to conform a unique object/person/idea to look like the one next to it? What is the artist trying to do with these rocks? They almost look imprisoned because they're tied up. To me, they look like they're competing as well because of the different heights. Haha it's amazing how something can give me two completely different contradictory interpretations. But I like it. . |
