personal statement |
My best skill as a teacher is my ability to communicate to students on a personal level. ‘Natural talent’ is not something I rely on for myself or in my students. Starting violin at age 4, I have had plenty of obstacles to overcome in learning the instrument. I am incredibly comfortable in helping students overcome challenges. I am skilled at breaking concepts down into small steps, breaking through mental mind blocks students create, and building confidence in my students. When students say “I can’t”, I prove to them they can. When students say they can, I look at how we can make it better. I love seeing my students realizing their potential and always encourage them to go further.
I know what high standards it takes to be taken seriously as a musician, and I strongly implement high standards in my teaching, both in music and in attitudes. My students know I take them seriously and will treat them like mature individuals. I value my students’ input, regardless of age and experience. One of the most important obligations I have as a teacher (not just a music teacher) is to help students realize their potential and teach them to use it effectively. No matter what age, what background, or where they come from, this is the most important goal. |
