about shannon
Growing up in Ashland, Ohio, Shannon began studying violin at age 4. She also learned to play cello, piano, and later the viola. She received the soundtrack to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for her birthday which sparked an interest for film soundtracks and began the curiosity of pursuing music as a career.
She pursued her bachelor's degree in music education at Bowling Green State University, studying violin with Dr. Penny Kruse and viola with Matthew Daline. Numerous opportunities to perform in mixed chamber ensembles and music by living composers helped build a strong, lasting passion for contemporary music and art.
In summer 2013, she attended Richmond University in London, England to attend a video production course with artist Richard Bevan. In the spring of 2014, she completed her student teaching at Sylvania Northview High School and Arbor Hills/McCord Junior High Schools with Director of Orchestras and cooperating teacher Pamela Thiel. In the fall of 2015, Shannon earned a Master of Design in Sound for the Moving Image from the Glasgow School of Art where she studied with Ronan Breslin, Paul Wilson, and worked with Dr. Daniel Livingstone as her class's representative.
Her thesis poster entitled "Integrating Sound Literacy in Secondary Education" was selected as runner up at the Audio Engineering Society's UK Conference in Audio Education in September 2015 at the University of Glasgow. Sound literacy is the ability to listen, create, and understand sound in a broad range of contexts. She continues to research different techniques for teaching and developing a standard curriculum for sound literacy.
Shannon has taught orchestra in Texas and is now teaching orchestra in Washington.
