The most important piece of furniture in my apartment is my movie shelf. I first bought it as a freshman in college from Meijer’s with my parents. It looks like dark cherry wood paneling, but it is actually very cheap. Three years later, even with the reinforcement of duct tape, the back is coming off. However, this shelf has seen a lot in the past three years. This shelf has three shelves just wide enough for two rows of nineteen movies each. At first, I only brought a few DVDs with me to college. I used the bottom shelf for dishes and only used the top two shelves for DVDs in single rows. Over the next two years, I had to move the dishes to another place because I shamelessly became addicted to the Walmart $5 bin and used items on Amazon.com. It wasn’t anything too extreme, just little rewards for myself if I had done well on a difficult exam or had a particularly successful week. It’s hard to turn down a movie that is five dollars or less. At first, buying DVDs for the shelf was great. I was happy the shelf’s full capacity was being used. Soon it filled up completely. Currently, I am at the peak of my shelf’s potential. I like watching things grow and seeing the different styles of movies I like over time. Soon, I will have to purchase another shelf and start the whole cycle over again. |
